They are the most widespread herons in North America, located in every state including Hawaii. This etching was created with four separate copper plates imbuing it with a rich color quality that is a feast for the eyes! Finished with transparent watercolors, it excels like the bird.

I wanted to show a life size female roseate spoonbill flying majestically over the water's edge in her exquisite breeding plumage. Tampa Bay has the largest nesting population of Spoonbills in the country, so I am fortunate to see them frequently.
Each etching is meticulously hand-painted with transparent watercolors giving it exceptional color similar to the actual bird.

The elegant Great Egret is the most common egret in the U.S. During breeding season, it grows long feathery plumes called aigrettes to attract a mate. These wispy feathers were once used as decorations in fashionable ladies’ apparel. This egret is displaying its physical prowess to attract a mate. It is a 4 plate etching using ten different inks, then hand-colored with watercolors.

This four-plate etching displays a Roseate Spoonbill, Brown Pelican, White Pelican and a Tri-colored Heron. A subtle creative feature of this etching is that the landscape grasses meet from one plate to the next. The viewer is looking through four windows at these wonderful water birds. The plates are hand-printed with black ink then all the colors are hand painted with transparent watercolor making each piece unique!
