The delicate Snowy Egret is always a pleasure for me to see They are sometimes called "Golden Slippers" because of their striking bright yellow feet. They are much smaller than a Great Egret, which also has all white feathers. I wanted to depict it in such a way that it appears to be landing on the edges of a palm tree with open wings and a suggestion of movement. I feel it is a very animated piece that immediately captivates the viewer. The blacks on this piece are very rich and no white paint is used. Gum Arabic was used with some of the colors to make them sing. The white that you see on the wings, etc is the white of the paper; a very difficult aspect to achieve!
