"BROWN PELICAN IN GRASS"
"BROWN PELICAN IN GRASS"
I consider Pelicans to be like contemporary flying dinosaurs because of their unusual appearance. This stocky seabird has a unique way of fishing; when dives its large body into the water creating quite a splash; any nearby fish are stunned and are then easily scooped into the Pelican’s mouth! The pouch color is brownish for Atlantic pelican’s while it is red for those found on the Pacific coast. This etching is created using a single plate that is hand wiped with black ink. All of the color that you see has been meticulously hand painted with watercolors. It is also one of the components in the larger etching “Florida Bird Series III” which has four different birds. Because each etching is individually hand painted; no two are ever the same!
