These small 3-inch birds that weigh about 1 oz. and beat their wings about 53 times per second, are found on the eastern half of the United States. They have great vision and see a wider spectrum of colors than the human eye, which helps distinguish flowers. This hand-colored etching presents the pair of life size Ruby-throated hummingbirds in flight, and is enhanced by using iridescent watercolors that sparkle. It is a single plate etching printed on high quality Rives rag paper and it totally archival.

This etching is hand-made on a copper plate, depicting the hummingbird’s life size. In addition to the Arches rag paper used for the etching, the inks and paints employed to create the etching are of the highest quality. Each etching is hand-printed with overlapping colors, a highly skilled process. Two weeks after the ink dries, several hours of hand-coloring is required to finish the piece. Iridescent paints are used on the bird feathers to replicate their shimmering quality. Because of all the hand work involved, no two pieces are exactly the same. The etching has a 1 1/2” border of paper around the image with a beautiful, deckled edge.
Framing:
Archival framing using supreme materials. The wood moulding is custom made with a pewter-champagne finish. The mat is museum rag – 8 ply, and the mounting mat is an archival neutral grey. The etching is floated to display an elegant, deckled edge of the beautiful rag paper that the etching is printed on. The glass is high quality museum glass to greatly reduce glare and protect the art from fading. The back is sealed with a mounting wire attached and ready to hang.

Art will generally be shipped within 10 days unless otherwise noted. Unframed, the art is shipped flat between several layers of cardboard so when received it will lay flat and pristine.
