Roseate Spoonbills have such an unusual beak and head, this piece focuses on these attributes. Tampa has the largest nesting population of Spoonbills in the country, so I am fortunate to see them frequently.   This etching was printed from the large “Roseate Spoonbill in Flight” plate on Arches watercolor paper with one ink, black. This watercolor paper gives more latitude in applying watercolor because it has more glue (sizing) then the normal printmaking paper used for editions.  All the colors are hand painted.  I consider this a varied edition where each print varies considerably, different colors and forms in the sky.  Each is an original watercolor.

  • Technical Art Information:

    Image Size: 24” x 14”

This etching is created using the plate from the “Spoonbill in Flight” etching. Only the head was printed on Arches watercolor paper to give more leeway in applying watercolor to the bird and background. It is printed in black and all the colors are hand-painted.  Each etching varies and is like an original watercolor. I did an edition of 45 with the designation as E/V (edition varied).  The etching has a 2” border of paper around the image with a beautiful, deckled edge.

  • Framing:

Archival framing using supreme materials. The wood moulding is custom made with a pewter-champagne finish.  The mat is museum archival fossil color, and the mounting mat is an archival black.  The etching is floated to display an elegant, deckled edge of the beautiful rag paper that the etching is printed on.  The glass is high quality museum glass to greatly reduce glare and protect the art from fading. The back is sealed with a mounting wire attached and ready to hang.

    Framing price: 190.00

    Total size with frame: 34 ½” x 25”
