One of the most colorful ducks in North America, Wood Ducks were once considered on the brink of extinction due to nesting habitat loss and hunting. Protective laws and availability of nesting boxes have brought this species back to a healthy population. This is a single plate etching printed with fours colors, then entirely hand-painted with transparent watercolors.

  • Technical Art Information:

This etching is hand-made on a single copper plates where 4 colors of ink were hand applied for the printing.  Normally printmaking paper is used on my etchings, but for this piece 300lb. watercolor paper is used.  In addition to the Arches rag paper used for the etching, the inks and paints employed to create the etching are of the highest quality.  Each etching in the edition requires a high degree of skill to apply the ink to the plate. Two weeks after the ink dries, several hours of hand-coloring is required to finish the piece. Because of all the hand work involved, no two pieces are the same. This piece is very close to being an original watercolor.

  • Framing:

Archival framing using supreme materials. The wood moulding is custom made with a pewter/champagne finish.  The mat is museum rag – 8 ply, and the mounting mat is a high contrast archival black.  The etching is floated to display an elegant, deckled edge of the beautiful rag paper that the etching is printed on.  The glass is high quality museum glass to greatly reduce glare and protect the art from fading. The back is sealed with a mounting wire attached and ready to hang.
