To watch these birds speed through the landscape is as entertaining as watching the roadrunner cartoons that many of us grew up with. This is a life size Greater Roadrunner, an amazing bird that can be found in the southwestern hot regions of the U.S., including Mexico. Because it is such an iconic image in many childhoods, I included a Coyote to oversee the action. This etching is created with five plates using 14 different colors. After the ink dries, each one it hand-painted with transparent watercolors. Five copper plates were used to create the image, in addition to meticulous hand-coloring with transparent watercolors.
Technical Art Information:
Image Size: 30” x 18”
This etching is hand-made on 5 large copper plates, with a total of 14 different colors of inks. In addition to the Rives BFK rag paper used for the etching, the inks and paints employed to create the etching are of the highest quality. Each etching is hand-printed with overlapping colors, a highly skilled process. Two weeks after the ink dries, several hours of hand-coloring is required to finish the piece. Because of all the hand work involved, no two pieces are exactly the same. The etching has a 2” border of paper around the image with a beautiful, deckled edge.
Archival framing using supreme materials. The wood moulding is custom made with a pewter-champagne finish or a natural walnut finish. The mat is museum rag – 8 ply, and the mounting mat is an archival neutral grey. The etching is floated to display an elegant, deckled edge of the beautiful rag paper that the etching is printed on. The glass is high quality museum glass to greatly reduce glare and protect the art from fading. The back is sealed with a mounting wire attached and ready to hang.
