Antique Prints for Sale

The history of printmaking and ornithological art has been a personal interest of mine for many years.   My collection has grown to the point where I am offering many of these pieces for sale at a good value.  In addition to the accurate detailed description of each piece, they are rated by quality and price is determined by current market value.

These hand-colored lithographs are from the first edition John James Audubon’s “Birds of America” published in Philadelphia between 1840-1844.  They were created under Audubon’s direct supervision with his personal stamp on quality and content.   This edition is unique because all the color was added by hand, whereas later editions some of the color was printed (skies for example were printed blue on later editions).  The first edition also contains subtle transitions of drawing tones, whereas later editions tend to have more contrast and less subtlety because the lithographic stones would degrade after many uses.  Full images with paper borders can be sent on request.
